The Anti-Gliadin test from ORGENTEC is used for the detection of gliadin antibodies in patients with gluten intolerance either as a screen (IgG and IgA) or a stand-alone test for IgG or IgA.

The protein gliadin is found in gluten, a protein found in many grains. A permanent intolerance to gluten is the cause of celiac disease, which causes villous atrophy and thus decreased absorption of nutrients. The clinical manifes- tations of this include chronic diarrhoea, abdo- minal pain, flatulence, and weight loss. Children suffering from celiac disease demonstrate slow growth. In adults it is also possible that gluten sensitivity can develop without any classical symptoms.

Anti-Gliadin titres correlate with the condition of the mucous membrane of the small intestine. A gluten-free diet results in a decrease in the anti- body titre and thus leads to a remission of the disease.

The Anti-Gliadin ELISA from ORGENTEC detects celiac disease with high sensitivity and specifi- city and helps to monitor adherence to a gluten-free diet.
