Mainz, GermanyUniversity and Business Company – Meeting of two Worlds: Once again, students from Rhein Main University of Applied Sciences visited ORGENTEC Diagnostika to gain insights into the working world of a global medical technology company. Lectures, experiments and discussions were building bridges between everyday research, university and business – a successful initiative by biotechnology lecturer Prof. Ulrike Stadtmueller and the general management of ORGENTEC. The students learned about requirements and perspectives in the diagnostics industry and gained an impressive look behind the scenes of an international company.

Medium-sized companies such as ORGENTEC are important economic players in international competition. “ORGENTEC is considered a hidden champion”, Joerg Ruppert, Director Business Strategy, explained. “Hidden champions tend to be less well-known companies in the public sphere, but they play a leading role in global markets.” Day-to-day, ORGENTEC faces the international competition and serves customers in more than 100 countries. In addition to a good command of the business language English, openness and an interest in foreign cultures are fundamental requirements for a career at ORGENTEC..

In-vitro diagnostics is a highly regulated industry, and consistently high quality products are the nuts and bolts for the doctor who applies them to their patients. Practicing a living quality management provides the basis for product quality. How does this works? Christian Löbke, Head of Quality Management, answered this question by means of an example taken from everyday life.

In the second part of the workshop, the students were free to perform an experiment. They used the rapid test rheumachec to detect biomarkers for rheumatoid arthritis.

Research Director and Developer Holger Bang emphasized the importance of biomarkers for the early diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. In his entertaining introductory speech, he also presented the role and importance of biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of serious diseases such as cancer, diabetes or autoimmune diseases.

Lively discussions developed from many interested questions – an exciting experience for the young academics but also for ORGENTEC as a possible future employer.

We would like to thank Prof. Stadtmueller for providing the nice photos.
