Ferritin

Ferritin is an ELISA test for the quantitative determination of ferritin in human serum or plasma. It is used to diagnose iron deficiency and to monitor the treatment of high-risk individuals like pregnant women, blood donors, and haemodialysis patients.
A further use for the determination of ferritin levels is in cases of iron overload (ferritin > 500 ng/ml), in individuals with conditions such as hemochromatosis and secondary siderosis. Extremely elevated ferritin levels are also found in cases of liver disease, neoplasia, infection, inflammation, and malignoma.
The wells of the microplate are coated with highly specific antibodies against human ferritin.
