About Us

Since the foundation in 1988 ORGENTEC Diagnostika belongs to the leading companies in the diagnostic industry. In May 2014 Water Street Healthcare Partners, Chicago, USA, has committed equity to both acquire a majority position in Orgentec and invest in future acquisitions and initiatives that will build the company into a global leader of specialty diagnostics products.

The first step on the way to expand our global position and to grow our portfolio of tests was the merger with Corgenix Medical Corporation, Denver, USA. Corgenix is a leader in the development and manufacturing of specialized diagnostic kits for immunology disorders, vascular diseases (including the world’s only non-blood-based test for aspirin effect, AspirinWorks®), bone and joint disorders.

Within a line of unique detection products for viral hemorrhagic disease Corgenix offers ReEBOVTM, the first rapid antigen test which has been authorized by FDA and WHO for emergency detection of Ebola virus infection.

Global success through regional strength and responsibility

We know what makes our company strong – but we also know what promotes strong growth. Whether it is the ideas of well-educated employees or the structural and logistical resources available to our company in an economic centre like the Rhine-Main region. Appealing working conditions, an excellent quality of life on both sides of the Rhine, and cultural and sporting highlights like “Fassenacht” in Mainz and Bundesliga football inspire a positive work-life balance. Such amenities are not equally available in all regions. Doing our part to contribute to these positive aspects of our location is one goal of our corporate social responsibility program, and builds solidarity both within the company and in our region. We try to meet this responsibility by approaching those in our immediate neighbourhood who urgently need our help. We view adversity as a call to advocate for equal opportunity and advancement, and to work with our colleagues to meet our social responsibilities. This stems from our conviction that people who can identify with our company and our values will also bring ideas and commitment to their work as our dependable partners. ORGENTEC supports selected social, sporting, and artistic projects from Mainz and for Mainz -- especially those that advocate for children and their families. Projects that work toward the healthy development of children are particularly close to our hearts, whether they promote motor development or provide regular meals for disadvantaged children. Our in-house charitable association “ORGENTEC & Friends” and our youth sports association “Generation Pro” at Mainz’s “ORGENTEC Golf course” use our colleagues’ love of this sport to do good and to bring the people of our region together. In addition to these current projects, ORGENTEC has supported and assisted the work of various charitable organizations that advocate for patients and medical research. These include:

Kinderkrebshilfe Mainz (Mainz Children’s Cancer Charity), Sterntaler Mainz (Mainz Children’s Medical Charity), Stiftung Mainzer Herz (Mainz Heart Foundation), Förderverein für tumor- und leukämiekranke Kinder Mainz (Mainz Association for Children with Tumours and Leukaemia), DEBRA, and Mainz 05 hilft (Mainz 05 Helps).

Passion and Recognition

At ORGENTEC Diagnostika we often are often asked about our “house artist”. The style of his paintings is unmistakeable, catching your eye as soon as you enter the building. They are powerful and distinct in composition: full of life, fun, and joy. The artist who produced these paintings is Roman Schmelter, who lives and works in Mainz, right in our neighbourhood of Mainz-Hechtsheim. His surreal imagery represents a central element of our corporate identity and his paintings can be seen on our web site and our product brochures.

We regularly participate in national and international round-robin tests with our test systems. Institutions such as INSTAND (Germany), UK NEQUAS (Great Britain), RCPA (Australia), and ÖQUASTA (Austria) thus consistently confirm the high efficiency and consistency of our autoimmune tests.

We use the most up-to-date manufacturing technology. Modern and lean production and communications processes, uncompromising customer orientation and rapid implementation of the latest scientific results guarantee our customers and users consistently high product quality as well as absolutely reliable delivery and adherence to schedules. Short decision-making chains and close collaboration with our clients and with scientists all over the world make it possible for us to react rapidly and efficiently to changes in the diagnostics market.

Our fully automatic analytical instrument, the Alegria®, represents a unique single solution for autoimmune diagnostics and infection serology. The fact that our well-established manual tests can be used on the Alegria®, and our special SMC® technology greatly simplify laboratory diagnostics and allow for targeted and patient-specific diagnostics. Since its introduction, the Alegria® has won awards both nationally and internationally, including the Medical Design Excellence Award.

More than 130 employees work at our company headquarters in Mainz; including 15 scientists working in research and development. Laboratories in more than 100 countries rely on the high standard and quality of our products and on our outstanding service. In Germany, Austria, Hungary, France and Switzerland, we provide direct service to our customers with our own personnel or branch offices; in other countries and regions we market our products through an established network of distributors.

Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB): Our Commitment to the Investigation of Rare Diseases

According to a Europe-wide definition, a disease is considered “rare” if a specific set of clinical symptoms affects less than 1 person in a population of 2,000. These diseases are often poorly understood and very difficult to treat. Hence, these diseases are aptly dubbed “Orphan Diseases.”

DEBRA: Commitment to “Butterfly Children”
ORGENTEC Diagnostika dedicates targeted efforts to the promotion of research into these Orphan Diseases and of the complex resources required to care for patients. One example is our support of the initiative DEBRA Austria (visit DEBRA Austria's website), whose objective is to promote scientific investigation of Epidermolysis bullosa (EB). Moreover, the initiative has committed itself to improving and permanently ensuring the care provided for patients with EB.

What is Epidermolysis bullosa?
Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a skin condition of genetic origin. Patients with Epidermolysis bullosa have skin that is said to be as fragile as a butterfly’s wings. This has given rise to the term “Butterfly Children.” Patients afflicted with this rare disease present blisters and deep scars which cause substantial medical problems. So far, no cure exists for this painful disease. The various effects of EB are dramatic; in addition to the physical aspects, the disease severely impacts patients’ emotional and social lives.

Incidentally, the so-called rare diseases are not so rare any more when added up. In Germany alone, several million people are concerned. Many of these diseases are severe and require time-consuming and expensive treatment and care. They debilitate patients and their families, often leading to death in childhood or adolescence.
