Myositis plus
Myositis plus is a membrane-based enzyme immunoassay for the semi-quantitative determination of IgG autoantibodies in human serum or plasma. This immunoblot test is used in cases of suspected polymyositis/dermatomyositis or overlap syndromes as well as for the differential diagnosis of scleroderma.
Autoantibodies against nuclear (ANA) and/or cytoplasmic antigens are found in nearly 90 % of patients with poly- or dermatomyositis. The Myositis plus test detects myositis-specific autoantibodies (MSA) that are generally only found in cases of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy and thus act as markers for this condition. In addition, this test detects myositis-associated autoantibodies (MAA), which are detected in patients with other diseases as well as those with myopathy.
The nine antigens in the Myositis plus test are deposited in bands onto nitrocellulose strips. The test detects autoantibodies characteristic of autoimmune myositis, scleroderma, and overlap syndromes in a single and simple step.
