Anti-C1q

Anti-C1q is an ELISA-based, automated, in-vitro test system for the quantitative determination of IgG antibodies against C1q complement factor in human serum or plasma.

C1q is the first protein in the activation cascade of the classical complement pathway. Antibodies that bind to the collagen portion of C1q with high affinity have been detected in patients with a number of rheumatic disorders. In particular, anti-C1q antibodies have been found in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and patients with hypocomplementemic urticarial vasculitis syndrome (HUVS). For SLE patients there exists an unambiguous correlation between antibody titer, disease progression and kidney involvement. SLE patients with an increasing anti-C1q titer were observed to have an approximately 50 % higher risk of developing lupus nephritis. C1q antibodies often appear a few weeks, sometimes as much as half a year before onset of nephritis. Continuous monitoring of the antibody status with ORGENTEC’s Anti-C1q test is thus recommended.
