Anti-Annexin
This assay is useful in the diagnosis of primary or secondary antiphospholipid syndrome (APS).
Annexin V antibodies are found in patients with APS, SLE, or other collagenoses, as well as those with rheumatoid arthritis. It is also possible that these autoantibodies have pathogenic significance in pregnancy complications.
The biological relevance of annexin V is rooted in the inhibition of the phospholipid-dependent blood-clotting cascade. This protein also plays an important thrombomodulatory role in placental circulation and in programmed cell death (apoptosis).
