Anti-BPI
Anti-BPI is an ELISA-based, automated, in-vitro test system for the quantitative determination of IgG antibodies against bactericidal permeability-increasing protein BPI in human serum or plasma.
Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (cANCA) against bactericidal permeability-increasing protein (BPI), in addition to PR3 or MPO antibodies, are important serological markers in the diagnosis of a number of inflammatory, especially rheumatic and gastrointestinal diseases.
Antibodies against BPI are primarily found in patients with cystic fibrosis and in patients with chronic inflammatory intestinal conditions like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Anti-PR3-negative serum samples that display a typical cANCA pattern in their immunofluorescence test should be tested for BPI antibodies.
