Anti-Rib-P
Anti-Rib-P is an ELISA-based, automated, in-vitro test system for the quantitative determination of IgG antibodies against ribosomal P proteins in human serum or plasma. They recognize a common epitope of the three phosphoproteins P0, P1 and P2 of the 60S subunit of the ribosomal complex.
Like anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA), anti-cytoplasmic antibodies play a role in rheumatic disease. Of these, the anti-ribosomal antibodies (ARA) are the best characterized. Autoantibodies against ribosomal P-proteins are highly specific markers for diagnostics of systemic lupus erythematosus, because they rarely occur in other autoimmune diseases.
ARA are found in only about 10 % of randomly selected SLE patients, but are detected in up to 40 % of SLE patients whose disease status is active. Anti-Rib-P detection is recommended in cases of suspected SLE when antibodies against Sm antigens and double-stranded DNA are absent. Use of the Anti-Rib-P ELISA from ORGENTEC is also indicated when lupus-induced psychosis is suspected.
